Momentary Moments of Genius

AMVs are the staple of the YouTube visitor's diet. Usually they are a hybrid of unjustly popular Japanese animation and some equally obnoxious, overplayed musical chord that makes you cringe and wish you never left-clicked to begin with. However, every once in a while there comes along the perfect mixture of music and video.

These are three of those videos:

Why is this genius?
Because its a sincerely great song that has been sung by several bands with an overall ambiguous meaning despite powerful metaphors. Also because the anime used is one of those rare series that challenges preconceptions without losing sight of its original character development. Each part suggests strong violent imagery and together they produce a violent work of art.

Why is this genius?
Again, the visual character used here is a powerful icon and a satire of the bodyguard character used in the animation of previous generations. Also, the song is from the fucking King. Elvis Presley. So here we have a song about action sung by one of the all-time greats instead of a flash-in-the-pan one hit wonder and the single most action packed icon of modern animation.

Why is this genius?
Most AMV makers will stretch out their animation resources by using the same scene over and over again within the course of the same song. MajorButtons, however goes one step beyond and he uses multiple sources - mostly from 4chan. And he takes the time to find the right song to go with each clip. So you actually get several quality AMVs in one shot. Though most of his work gets deleted for content and copyright violation, MajorButtons produces some of the best AMV work out there. If the Amish used their handcrafting skills to make AMVs, this is what they would look like.

Well.. aside from the sexual references, naturally.
